For the week of

January 21, 2019

Unit 2: Close Reading for the Big Idea

This week, students will continue our nonfiction reading unit. We will explore the use of guiding questions before, during, and after reading to improve our close reading skills. Our focus this week is text structure and author's perspective. The nonfiction texts and articles in this unit explore the reintroduction of wolves to the USA and the controversy this has caused. The primary text is Once A Wolf by Steve Swinburne.

Unit 2: Research-based Information Writing

This week students will engage in a group rotation activity to gather information on the five possible ancient civilizations for the research paper. Students will then evaluate their choices and choose a topic for the paper. Students will then work in cohort groups to begin the research process with several articles related to the chosen topic.

**NWEA Testing this Thursday and Friday. Please be sure Chromebooks come to school fully charged!**

Reminders:  All students are expected to read at home for a minimum of 2 hours per week.
