School Year 2014-15

I apologize for the delay in getting my Web Page up and running.  Unfortunately, Sharp School had not been saving my edits as I put them in.  I am hoping the issue is finally resolved.

Week of October 6-10

As always, students should be sure to read for 90 minutes per week outside of school from their independent reading books.  I check on Mondays for parent verification of how long students read and get an idea how much time it takes students to complete the amount of pages they are reading.  This helps me tremendously in recommending new reading to students.

Booktalks for the week can be found here.

IN LA1, we are working on a new unit, "Making a Good Story" and in LA2, students are continuing to write their narratives.

October 15-17:

Students will be taking the NWEA tests in mathematics and language arts on Monday, so our regular classes will be disrupted that day.

On Thursday, students should be prepared for two small quizzes on Coordinating Conjunctions with Independent Clauses and on the Word Parts "bio," "micro" and
"-ology/-ologist" along with related words.  We reviewed in class last week.

Our department is learning new curricula for both LA programs, one of which is Writing Workshop by Lucy Calkins.  We are very excited to be learning how to run a Writing Workshop in our LA2 classes.  Students are now working on their second scenes of their narratives.
