Mrs. Matson's Book List

Skinny by Donna Cooner
This is a fairy tale story about a 305-pound fifteen year old girl.  Good inner voice dialogue.

Wonder by R.J. Palacio
This was our school-wide read a couple of summers ago.  I would be amazed if you didn't enjoy it!  Ask your friends about it.

The Adventures of Bean Boy by Lisa Harkrader
Enjoyable and easy to read. It took me about 30 pages to get into it, though.

Evolution, Me & Other Freaks of Nature by Robin Brande
A Nutmeg honor book.  Pretty good, about a girl dealing with the fallout of a decision she recently made.  Lots of science and religion.

Rot and Ruin by Jonathan Maberry
Zombie hunting--I only made it to chapter 8.

Greyhound of a Girl by Roddy Doyl
A ghost story, but more touching than scary.

Friends With Boys by Faith Erin Hicks
A very weird graphic novel.  Teens would enjoy it.

All These Things I've Done by Gabrielle Zevin (audio book)
Another book set in dystopian society in the future.  I enjoyed it.  The narrator is a girl and there are some mature themes.  Check with your parents before reading.

Drama by Raina Telegmeier (graphic novel)

The White Giraffe by Lauren St. John

Unenchanted (An Unfortunate Fairy Tale) by Chandra Hahn

The Mark of Athena by Rick Riorden
Latest in The Lost Hero series.  I loved it, but you need to be into fantasy to enjoy them.  Also it helps to have a solid background in mythology.
